Our
founder- born January 19, 1953
Pope's
Cafeteria in 1953. Only known file photo. Missouri Historical Society.
It was
called the Lindell Building then but yields no Google results.
The marble over
the entrance where it says "Lindell Building" is this beautiful Norwegian
marble.
It is the same marble that highlights parts of the St. Louis Art Museum.
Dean
took it down for himself (laborious process) and Mr. Webbe said he wanted it.
Dean
told him it was already sold (it was- to Dean).
This marble is now the floor of
the east sunroom on the farmhouse.
Note the brick streets on Washington as well
as the trolley tracks. Check out the men's hats.
The stone is in Dean's possession.
The balconies are on a fancy hotel downtown and the terra-cotta was sandblasted and
rendered unfit.
The internal timbers were shipped to Switzerland and became "faux"
chalets.
